Proposed new law to license taxi service providers
With input from town resident Anthony Bazzo who owns a taxi service that is licensed in Peekskill, Town Clerk Alice Roker suggested that the town adopt a local law regulating taxi service in town. Currently there is no such law. Mr. Bazzo explained that while Peekskill has such a law, which he described as very strict, there are unlicensed Peekskill companies that are operating in Yorktown. And because they are unlicensed, there are no controls over the safety of the cars or whether the drivers have a license. Westchester County does not issue licenses for taxis; it is strictly a home rule issue. He explained that there's a difference between a taxi service and a car service, although the Peekskill law still prohibits taxis from randomly picking up people in the street. Ms. Roker will review the Peekskill law and get back to the board.
